Creative sector

Alexander Accountancy has been working with clients in the creative sector for many years. Our customers have included copy and content providers, graphic designers, marketing agents, photographers, public relations agents, search engine optimisation providers, website designers and digital developers. Many were sole traders and smaller businesses, although some have been departments in larger businesses that also provide IT services.

How we help the creative sector:
Operational challenges can vary as there is the potential for transactional, recurring and passive income streams. In many cases the creative mindset is not fully attuned to business and financial disciplines required. We are well versed in supporting creative clients to achieve a rounded business model. It is a sector vulnerable to economic cycles, so often we can be the calm heads during the downward turn to help them achieve business longevity.

Creative Sector
Our sector knowledge:
Our approach is about getting to know and understand the client and the income model they are following, then ensuring the best financial systems are in place.

Alexander Accountancy’s approach:
As with other sectors our approach is about understanding the business you are dealing with, the stage they are at and the size they wish to achieve.

Sector insights:
Over the past few years, the creative sector has seen an increasing transition to working online, the development of almost a do it yourself culture around creativity plus the growing influence of AI. Although not typical of “pen pushing” accountants, we take a holistic view of the businesses we deal with and in this sector we encourage clients to define their value proposition. They can then demonstrate their value over that of the online DIY culture.

Who we work with:
Clients can vary hugely in this sector as the services often rely on individual creativity and cannot always be 100 per cent taught or learned. Often, we are contacted when clients realise they have a challenge. Our preference is to be contacted as soon as they start planning to launch a business, which is why our first meeting is always free of cost to avoid any obstacles to getting advice as early as they can in the process.

How we add value:
Over the years we have seen several cases of helping clients achieve their goals, be this earning a living from a part time hobby businesses or moving from the corporate world to a more relaxed lifestyle. In a couple of cases it has been building an embryo business, engaging staff, introducing systems and processes, then achieving a sale on the open market.

Our sector connections:
As a business we do a lot of general networking and have a lot of clients. In turn we come across opportunities where people may be looking to engage creative services or looking for creative partners.
