Trainee Client Manager
Having worked for Alexander Accountancy since September 2018, initially joining on an apprenticeship, Kyle Harman is now a trainee manager.
What drew you to accountancy?
At school I enjoyed maths and business studies and my parents both worked in financial roles so it was in my background. My mum worked in payroll and my dad is a financial adviser so you could say I followed what I knew. It is broad role working in accountancy. I like the idea of helping people in business by enabling them to get the figures which are important to them.
What do you enjoy most about your role at the firm?
I enjoy drafting accounts and getting the numbers to the stage where they can go to the client. I like being involved in the process. I enjoy taking on new initiatives and helping run the workflows.
Is there a professional achievement or qualification you are particularly proud of?
I am proudest of getting my Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) advanced diploma in business and accountancy, which I completed in two and a half years. Achieving it shows you have the knowledge and ability to help people in the industry, as well as an understanding of the different areas of accountancy.
Outside of work, what hobbies or interests keep you busy?
I support Aston Villa and go to home games. I play golf in the summer and like to socialise with my friends and girlfriend, as well as spending time with my family.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting their career with Alexander Accountancy, what would it be?
Be yourself. We have a friendly, welcoming team so you should not be worried about getting to know people. I joined on an apprenticeship aged 16 after doing my GCSEs so I was nervous about going into this size of company but everyone was very welcoming and helped me to push on.
