What drew you to accountancy and what do you enjoy most about your role at the firm?
I was initially drawn to accountancy by situation. When I enrolled in college, the accountancy programme appeared to have fewer students compared to other more popular fields like engineering and architecture. In addition, it was my parents’ choice for me, as they believed that a career in accountancy would provide me with a good future standing. While their suggestion played a role in my decision, I chose to embrace the programme and eventually grew to enjoy the process.
What do you enjoy most about your role at the firm?
What I enjoy most about my role at Alexander Accountancy is the positive work environment and the emphasis on effective time management. The team have a supportive culture, where we are not pressured but rather encouraged to ask questions and seek guidance when needed. Having this kind of environment has enhanced my learning and professional development. Working with such a knowledgeable and skilled team has enabled me to enhance my skills, take on increasingly complex tasks and contribute to the team success with greater accuracy and confidence.
Is there a professional achievement or qualification you are particularly proud of?
I am particularly proud of earning my bachelor’s degree in accountancy even though I am a working student. The programme is demanding and requires commitment, as we were required to pass a qualification exam before advancing to higher years. Only 60 out of more than 250 students were able to successfully pass the exam, which makes this achievement even more significant to me. It stands as a testament to my commitment, dedication and ability to thrive in a challenging academic environment.
Outside of work, what hobbies or interests keep you busy?
I enjoy a variety of activities that help me recharge. I often go hiking with friends, which allows me to connect with nature and unwind. I also attend concerts of my favorite artists whenever possible, as music is something I deeply enjoy. Additionally, I have interest in watching TV series and reading fiction stories. On weekends, I prioritise family time by attending Mass and engaging in bonding activities with my loved ones, which provides me with balance and fulfillment.
If you could give one piece advice to someone just starting their career with Alexander Accountancy, what would it be?
Never hesitate to ask questions or seek guidance from senior colleagues. Engaging with them not only helps you perform tasks more accurately, it boosts your confidence. Their advice and insights are essential in navigating the difficulties of the profession and ensuring continuous growth.
What is something that might surprise people about you or your background?
One thing that might surprise people is my passion for sports, particularly table tennis, badminton, and volleyball. These were activities I enjoyed throughout my grade school years and continued to play until I graduated. Although my schedule now is busier, I still try to make time for these sports, when possible, as they help me stay active and maintain a balanced lifestyle.
