Alexander Accountancy is offering to help private landlords comply with the new Renters’ Rights Act, ahead of the deadline for informing tenants on May 31.
By the end of the month all landlords must send a Renters’ Rights Act Information Sheet to tenants whose tenancies started before May 1 2026 or face potential fines up to £7,000.
Alexander Accountancy supports property professionals with the support they need to meet their compliance requirements and the information required for the successful management of their business.
The team are helping clients with compliance for the act, introduced by the Government with the aim of improving security and fairness for tenants.
New tenancies from May 1 2026 onwards must have had the information provided before the tenancy was agreed. The information sheet requirement is among a raft of changes including the end of “no fault” Section 21 evictions, which have previously allowed landlords to evict tenants without giving a reason.
Other changes taking effect this month include the requirement by May 31 for landlords to give their tenant written information if the tenancy started before May 1 and there is only a spoken agreement in place for the tenancy or face potential fines up to £7,000.
From May 1 2026 landlords must have stopped using assured shorthold tenancies (ASTs). Again, a fine up £7,000 fine is payable if a landlord falsely claims a tenancy is fixed-term or includes unlawful end dates.
With access to industry experts with their own networks of contacts at every level, Alexander Accountancy supports property landlords and investors who may have a single letting or portfolios that can include residential lettings, houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs), holiday lets, commercial lets and other property types.
