Alexander Accountancy client manager Lisa Aylett is preparing to brave the cold by sleeping out for the night to raise funds for YMCA Burton.
Lisa is looking for sponsorship in the build-up to the challenge, which will see her join volunteers staying out overnight at St Modwen’s Church in Market Place, Burton upon Trent, on November 7.
She aims to raise £1000 by taking part in the event organised by Alexander Accountancy’s longstanding charity partner, YMCA Burton, a vital local charity providing supportive and safe housing for homeless people across three sites in East Staffordshire.
Lisa said she stepped forward to get involved to make a difference to those in need. She said: “It never even crossed my mind not to take part.
“I know some people in the office think I am a little bit crazy to sleep in a church yard for a night, but I honestly do not see it as a big deal.
“I will be outside for what 10 hours but at the end of the day I know I will be going home to hot water, a hot meal and a warm bed.
“Although I try not to take any of those things for granted, I am hoping it gives me a renewed appreciation for all three, especially when there are a lot of people out there who do not have any of the simple pleasures we all enjoy.”
Real difference
Alexander Accountancy is committed to mixing business networking with charitable fundraising, creating valuable connections while supporting those most in need locally.
Earlier this month, businesses across Burton-on-Trent and East Staffordshire were able to show off their general knowledge skills at Alexander Accountancy’s charity quiz night in aid of YMCA Burton.
The annual event, held on Thursday October 9 at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium, also included an auction, raffle and true or false game with the main quiz led by quizmaster Richard Lloyd, raising £5650 in total.
Alexander Accountancy Chairman David Alexander said: “We wish Lisa the very best for the sleep out for YMCA Burton, a local cause we know well. Every contribution will make a real difference to YMCA Burton’s important work supporting homeless people in our community.”
